- San Antonio, TX (1888PressRelease) December 07, 2011 - Genevieve Martinez, QA Nurse/ Trainer for Morningside Ministry at Chandler Estate, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Genevieve Martinez's commitment to excellence in Healthcare.
Martinez became a licensed vocational nurse in 1996 with the goal of becoming an L&D nurse delivering babies. Instead, her career turned to the aging, where she began in a LTC facility working with the geriatric population.
During her fifteen year career, Martinez's focus has been long-term and rehab nursing. Now a QA Nurse/Trainer, she leads the quality assessment and assurance program and provides staff training/education. Additional duties include new employee orientation, nursing competency training and staff/resident immunizations.
"Educating the staff on quality improvement issues equals better quality of nursing care for our residents," Martinez said.
Working for Morningside Ministries at Chandler Estate has been a highlight in her career, adding, "I love the mission of the company: Caring for those who cared for us."
Inspired by her father to use her experiences as an opportunity to grow and learn, Martinez said, "My dad taught me the importance of continuing my education in order to grow as a person. I will be a lifelong student and leaner."
Noting the importance of furthering the nursing profession, Martinez serves as an advisory board member for Career Quest. The high point in her career came when she collaborated with team members researching the effects of restraint reduction and psychotropic medications reductions and their relationships to falls in LTC residents. The findings of the study were published in AMDA. While working as ADON in a long-term care facility, Martinez created an infection control protocol that became the standard of practice used by the corporation throughout all sister facilities.
Morningside Ministry at Chandler Estate is the area's largest nonprofit, faith-based organization providing care for older adults throughout three different communities. They offer independent living apartments and cottages, residences for individuals needing assistance with daily activities, memory and nursing care and rehabilitation.
"As a faith-based, not-for-profit organization for over fifty years, we've touched the lives of our residents by providing innovative, life enriching programs, warm and comfortable surroundings and loving and capable employees," said President and CEO, Alvin Loewenberg.
Martinez is currently enrolled in the San Antonio College Career mobility LVN to RN program and is looking forward to a May 2012 graduation. Future plans include obtaining a BSN bridge to the master's program and ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner with a focus on geriatric psychiatry.
