Biltmore Who's Who Selects Ellen Sovalik as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

- Fairbanks, AK (1888PressRelease) March 08, 2011 - Ellen Sovalik, Director of Health and Social Services for North Slope Borough Health, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Ellen Sovalik's commitment to excellence in Government and Health.
Sovalik, who has been working for the North Slope Borough Health Department for the past twenty years, has been working in her current role as director for the last three.
In her role, Sovalik oversees behavioral health programs, such as Children Youth Services, Gathering Place, Integrated Behavioral Health Services and Arctic Women in Crises, and physical health programs like Public Health Nursing, Senior Citizen's Center, Veterinary Clinic/Public Health Office, Women, Infant and Children. "I have been fortunate to be mentored under the Health Department, allowing me to take opportunities to be trained," Sovalik said.
First hired under the State of Alaska, Sovalik has learned to recognize the community's need for health prevention and education. In 1999 she was appointed by the Native Village of Barrow Council as a Tribal Associate Judge, providing her with training to prepare her to be a part of a group that wrote the Tribal Laws currently in place.
Nominated for Employee of the Month for the North Slope Borough in 1999, Sovalik is a graduate through Indian Health Service National Health Promotion/Disease Prevention Initiative for completion of the Healthy Native Communities Fellowship in 2008. In her free time, Ellen enjoys volunteering and spending time with her family.
