Manion, who began her first job after finishing business school at The Morrison Business School in 1973, worked for a local newspaper for a short time and several other businesses, including interior decorating, before venturing into insurance where she spent the next thirty-three years.
As an insurance office manager and co-owner for the insurance agency, Manion worked hard at building the clientele. She oversaw employees, did all bookkeeping procedures, handled claims and worked directly with customers. "I was taught very well at my business school," she explained. "I was taught telephone etiquette and to always greet customers with a smile." These two rules, which was the foundation of good customer services skills, kept her busy for many years.
Manion hopes to get back into investing in property soon while the market is still down, and go back to school to study psychology, specifically to help abused women and children. In the meantime, she is working on an interior design business that she plans to get off the ground real soon.
Manion has won numerous insurance awards throughout her long career. She is a past representative of Gideons International and volunteers with Cornerstone Church, Abused Women's Shelters, and within her local community. In her free time, Elaine enjoys motorcycle riding, playing golf and watching drag racing.
