Biltmore Who's Who Selects Dr. Rick A. Friedman as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry

- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) November 25, 2010 - Dr. Rick A. Friedman, Medical Doctor and Surgeon for House Clinic, Inc., has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Friedman, who received his BA from UCLA, followed by a PhD in Molecular Medicine and MD, both from UCSD, began his career in 1996 at the University of Cincinnati as a neurotologist and basic scientist in skull base surgery and the study of genetic hearing loss.
As a surgeon in the field of otology/skull base surgery, Friedman cares for patients with disorders of hearing and balance and tumors of the skull base. He also heads up a laboratory where their focus is the study of genetics of common forms of hearing loss. His training at the clinic, he said, along with his scientific training, which included his PhD, prepared him for his surgical career. "I have a love for music and was drawn to a field that would allow me to restore hearing," Friedman explained. "The intricate anatomy of the ear and skull base inspired me to pursue this surgical career.
Through his entrepreneurial efforts as co-founder of Otonomy, Inc., Friedman hopes to design medicines that will treat hearing disorders for his patients. His organization is the first-ever to be completely devoted to this type of treatment. So far, he and his colleagues have identified the first gene associated with age-related hearing loss.
Friedman is a member of the North American Skull Base Society, AAO-HNSF, American Otological Society, American Neurotological Society, and is on the medical advisory board of the Acoustic Neuroma Association. In his free time, Rick mentors at public and private area high schools to prepare them for college, and enjoys surfing, skiing and hiking.
