  • Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) February 04, 2012 - Dianne O'Neil, Safe and Drug -Free Schools Coordinator for Williamson County Schools, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Dianne O'Neil's commitment to excellence in Counseling.

O'Neil, who holds a Bachelor's Degree of Education in Music and Music Therapy from the University of Missouri, is a Tennessee licensed and National Certified Addictions Counselor who began working in the field in 1977 for a long-term residential setting in California. From there she worked for a group home in Kansas City, Missouri for six years with emotionally disturbed adolescent females. In 1985, she moved to Nashville to work in a chemical dependency treatment center for adolescents as a supervisor of the evaluation unit. Two years later she accepted her current position where she has been serving as the school district's safe and drug-free schools coordinator for the past twenty-five years.

In her current role, O'Neil develops and implements plans that foster safe and drug-free learning environments, oversees student assistance program implementation and administration in all middle and high schools and the Alternative Learning Center for nineteen different sites. She also consults with the STARS program managers, counselors, WCS central office directors, school administrators and faculty members. She provides research-based or proven effective K-12 curriculum and programs that address drug and violence prevention and intervention, and she also represents the school district on local advisory councils and coalitions to promote collaborations between programs.

"I love children and believe in their potential even if they have multiple risk factors like a family history of alcoholism or addiction," O'Neil said. "Thanks to many researchers, this field has become much more sophisticated and we have effective tools and programs to educate and intervene."

Hoping to continue in her field and be able to share her lifelong journey with a much larger audience, O'Neil has always had a passion for helping children. She has recently written a book which she hopes to have published this year, entitled Same Disease Different Day to go with her CD/book, Cry of a Lamb, which focuses on recovery and spiritual healing. She also directed a countrywide initiative in her school district, Be In The "Click", and school-based seatbelt safety program that earned national awards. In 2004, O'Neil developed an elementary seatbelt safety program with a character called Buckle Up Bear, a theme song and five books.
