Biltmore Who's Who Selects Deborah Jo Adams as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Deborah Jo Adams' commitment to excellence in Education.
- Jonesboro, AR (1888PressRelease) September 15, 2010 - Deborah Jo Adams, Educator at Greene County Technical High School, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry.
Adams, who holds a BSE in Mathematics, followed by a MSE in Mathematics from Arkansas State University, has been teaching in her field since the fall of 1973. Her first job was working with the Leachville School District teaching general math to seventh through ninth grade students and algebra to ninth graders.
Currently, Adams teaches pre-calculus, a course that is also a concurrent class for the students that qualify. Each student receives college credit for college algebra and college trigonometry through Arkansas State University. She also teaches AP statistics and serves as department chair. "In this position, I have input into who teaches what," she explained. "I am responsible for making sure we have the books we need, and to encourage my fellow teachers to share ideas and experiences, as well as conduct departmental meetings." Adams is also the lead teacher for the school vertical team, which is made up of teachers who teach the courses feeding the AP calculus and AP statistics. They have four meetings each year and try improving the way these classes are taught, raising the bar for the students to get them ready for AP courses.
Coming close to retirement, Adams strives to continue making a difference in young people's lives. "I measure my success by my students' ability to successfully complete the degree of their choice," she said. "Helping young adults master math concepts and receive their degrees has motivated me to continue teaching."
Adams is a member of the Arkansas Teachers of Mathematics, National Teachers of Mathematics, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She has been named High School Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year several years ago. She is a supporter of the Salvation Army and Angel Tree. In her free time, Deborah enjoys reading, and sports like baseball and basketball.
