Biltmore Who's Who Selects Dawn Ann Tish as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Dawn Ann Tish's commitment to excellence in Non-Profit.
- Kansas City, MO-KS (1888PressRelease) January 29, 2011 - Dawn Ann Tish, Founder and Director of Disabilities Services for Heart Knot, LLC, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Dawn Ann Tish's commitment to excellence in Non-Profit.
Tish, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, both from Wesleyan University, followed by a Master's Degree in Education and Counseling from the University of Maryland, began working in the brain injury arena of social services in 1998 and has worked as a service coordinator and in mental health dealing with brain injury survivors.
As founder and director of her non-profit organization, Tish educates the public about traumatic brain injury. She meets with survivors and their families to educate them about brain injury, causes, consequences and effects. She also assesses their needs both individually and as a family, while getting them the resources from the local, regional and national level to aid them in the process. She advocates and advises on services and options to best meet each person's needs, and helps teach compensation strategies to help the survivor manage the deficits brought about as a result. "If I've helped one person make their life better, then that is the greatest accomplishment I can think of," Tish said in regard to her very rewarding career.
A past substance abuse counselor, victim assistance counselor and having worked with families at risk of abuse and neglect as a parent counselor, Tish has worked in many areas of the health profession. She is a certified brain injury specialist and is also certified by the AAETS as an expert witness in the area of brain injury.
Currently pursuing her LPC license and planning to return to school to work toward her education specialist degree and her doctorate in behavioral sciences, Tish's own injury is what inspires her most. "I was already working in the field when I received my injury, but thankfully it was a mild one," she said. "That just made me more determined to help those who are part of this silent epidemic."
Tish is a member of Case Management Society of America, American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, National Center for Crisis Management and the PEO Honor Society (a philanthropic education organization) and was recently named the Missouri Brain Injury Association's Volunteer of the Year in 2010. She's continuously worked hard to stay current and well rounded by completing numerous trainings and workshops in her field, including being a 1991 graduate of the Interdisciplinary Rape Science Institute. In her free time, Dawn enjoys reading, knitting and crocheting.
