- Scranton--Wilkes-Barre-Hazleton, PA (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2011 - Dave Missey, Vice-President of Smokin' Vittles, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Dave Missey's commitment to excellence in Hospitality.
Smokin' Vittles, originally a small smoker trailer business founded in 2010, which offered some of the finest cooked pork in town, has recently opened its doors to a full-fledge restaurant just under five months ago at 429 Sterling Road (Route 196), just two miles north of 5 Points in Mt. Pocono. The official grand opening and ribbon cutting with the Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce will be held at noon on Friday, July 1 with a member of the State House of Representatives in attendance.
Boasting over thirty-one years of food service experience with food distributors, restaurants, hospitals, colleges, club stores, grocery stores, military food service, and as a backyard smoker for over twenty-years, Missey started his business with his wife Gina, who serves as president of the company, overseeing much of the daily operations. As chef for the restaurant, Missey prides in creating some of the highest quality products made with one-hundred percent real wood-fired smoking and natural ingredients, creating what he calls a "wow factor" for all his customers.
"We are not a 'me too' establishment. We do not sell burgers," Missey said about his new restaurant business. "We put love and care on everything we offer."
With a menu that offers ribs as their staple entree, Smokin'Vittles also makes chicken, wings, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, beef brisket sandwiches, sausage and fish. The restaurant has no cooking facility inside the building, not even a microwave, so everything is cooked on the premises outside on their 25' smoker trailer. By using a process called slow smoking, the cooking time takes a bit longer, but the end result makes everything much tastier. Additionally, they offer catering both on and off site, with outdoors seating that can accommodate up to seventy people, and they are a BYOB establishment.
"Our ribs are smoked for six hours, beef brisket for seven hours and bone in pork butts for ten to eleven hours to create pulled pork," Missey said. "And our sides are homemade, not out of a box. Everything is made from pure and natural ingredients."
Their prices are very reasonable, and the restaurant is open from 11:00am-8:00pm Tuesday through Thursday, 11:00am-9:30pm on Friday and Saturday, 11:00am-8pm on Sunday, and is closed on Mondays, except for holidays.
Primarily focused on building up their clientele, Missey hopes to someday explore franchise opportunities. He is currently certified through ServeSafe in the state of Pennsylvania, and is a member of the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau and Monroe County Chamber of Commerce.
