Biltmore Who's Who Selects Bonnie A. Seay as an Honored Member of the Executive and Professional Registry
The selection recognizes Bonnie A. Seay's commitment to excellence in Education.
- Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2011 - Bonnie A. Seay, a Foreign Language Teacher for The Academy at Old Cockrill, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Bonnie A. Seay's commitment to excellence in Education.
Seay, who holds a BA in Spanish from Vanderbilt University, an MAT from the University of Vermont, and an MA in Spanish and Portuguese also from Vanderbilt, began teaching Spanish to high school students just after receiving her first degree in 1966.
After attending the first Vanderbilt-in-Spain program, which initiated when she was a senior in high school, and having followed in the footsteps of her parents who were both teachers, Seay now teaches French and Spanish I and II at a newly developed alternative program. This program encourages 17-21 year olds to return to school and finish their high school diplomas. In addition to teaching her college level courses, she will also be returning for her seventh year as a reader for Advanced Placement Spanish Language this summer.
"My job is to see that my students complete their requirements of two years' credit in one language," Seay explained. "It is very rewarding to help young people who had little chance of finishing."
Having a love for languages throughout her life, Seay intends to keep teaching at the academy until retirement. At that point, she would like to tutor languages at the local high schools and at Vanderbilt to help students in their academics. Having also taught AP Spanish Language and Literature and Spanish in the International Baccalaureate Programme during her career, she plans to travel to a few countries that she hasn't visited yet, including Argentina and Brazil.
Seay was a member of the Foreign Language Honor Society, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and A Cappella Choir at Vanderbilt. She received an NDE Award in Portuguese from Vanderbilt University during her MA studies and was recently named Teacher of the Year at The Academy at Old Cockrill for 2010-11. She spent a year in Bogota, Colombia in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program. In her free time, Bonnie enjoys reading, dancing, British comedies and mysteries, animals, zumba exercise classes, Vanderbilt activities and sports, and travel.
