- Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) April 08, 2011 - Alan Soifer, Co-Owner of Alan James Jewelers, LLC, has been selected as an Honored Member of the Biltmore Who's Who Executive and Professional Registry. The selection recognizes Alan Soifer's commitment to excellence in the Retail industry.
Soifer, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania-Mansfield and a Graduate Degree in Gemology from the Gemological Institute of American, began his career in 1977 after earning his first degree.
As co-owner of the jewelry store, Soifer maintains every aspect of the business, from opening and closing the store and the safes, making purchases on goods, traveling when necessary, cleaning and doing shop work, to doing the accounting, cold calling, advertising, and interacting with area professional groups and associations. With a combination of gemological training, lots of on the job training and carefully listening and learning from various other retailers over the years, Soifer has created a dynamic business by extracting the parts and elements that worked best for him and his business.
"I was always interested in sparkly jewelry and gemstones," he said. "During early childhood, I collected rocks and minerals and somehow knew that each had a mystical and unique property. I knew that my focus in the future was destined to be linked to gemstones and jewelry."
Having to continuously learn as the industry changes, Soifer keeps abreast of new gemological changes and jewelry trends.
His biggest efforts in the business however, still remain the same, "I learned that a full commitment to sincerity, honesty, professionalism and the ability to carefully listen to customers is extremely important in establishing a personal and caring relationship," he said.
Soifer is a registered jeweler, certified gemologist and a certified gemologist appraiser through the American Gem Society. He has participated in numerous jewelry evaluations, including the American Gem Society Gem Collection as donated to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, at Tiffany and Company in New York City, and internal audit evaluations at the world's largest jewelry store, Borsheim's, in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of the Gemological Institute of America Alumni Association, American Gem Trade Association, Jewelers of America, Michigan Retailers Association, The Finest Gems in the World, Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts, JewelLinked and the Troy Chamber of Commerce. In his free time, Alan enjoys cooking, gardening, dancing and yoga.
