(1888PressRelease) August 03, 2011 - New York, NY - Bill White, longtime advocate and dedicated supporter of our nation's military personnel, veterans and their families, was recently honored by the USS Intrepid Former Crewmembers Association by being named Honorary Intrepid Crew Member.

Bill White was granted Honorary Membership in the Former Crewmembers Association through a unanimous vote by the Association's Board of Directors. Bill White was awarded Honorary Membership into the USS Intrepid Former Crewmembers Association earlier this summer by the Former Crewmembers Association Board of Directors.

"In April, 2011,when the decision was made to offer Bill White an Honorary Membership in the USS Intrepid Association, I did have one important concern; Bill was no longer President of the Intrepid Museum and was not a familiar figure to our out of town board members," noted Richard L. Mills, President, USS Intrepid Association. "My concern was quickly put to rest when, after presenting my proposal to the Board of Directors, and, with all in full agreement, a motion was made, seconded, and accepted unanimously. Bill White, who served as President of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for over 20 years until his retirement in 2010 was humbled by the honor of being named an honorary crew member of Intrepid. Bill White's dedication to Intrepid began over twenty years ago and has continued through to today. Although Bill White retired as President of Intrepid in 2010, he currently serves on the boards of both the Intrepid Relief Fund and Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Under Bill White's leadership, the Intrepid Museum emerged as a world-class education attraction welcoming almost 1,000,000 visitors each year and raising over $600 million for related charitable efforts. Bill White's determination and dedication to the history and former crewmembers of USS Intrepid that led to Intrepid Museum becoming the National Historic Landmark it is today.
