Sound Attenuation and Value Stream Mapping Key to Making It Happen.
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 14, 2011 - When Bikas Building of North Carolina LLC began construction of Atrium Obstetrics and Gynecology's recently relocated offices at 2615 Lake Drive in Raleigh, the company made sound attenuation, value stream mapping (VSM) and construction of a larger and more efficient procedure room top priorities.
"Privacy is of the upmost importance for the patient's communication with the staff or doctor," said Pete Bikas, owner of Bikas Building of North Carolina. "Our attention to sound attenuation guarantees the patient's privacy."
Bikas Building achieved sound attenuation in each exam room, procedure room and doctor's office via the following three methods:
Providing ducted supply and return for the HVAC system
Installing sound attenuation batts in the walls and the ceiling
Installing a sound gasket around each door with an automatic door bottom
The 310 National Guard Products automatic door bottom features a state-of-the-art internal sealing system that signifcantly reduces sound travel. The technology enables activation of a concealed, flat spring when the door closes, which lowers a seal insert against the floor. The seal retracts automatically when the door opens.
Bikas Building of North Carolina LLC also collaborated with Atrium Obstetrics and Gynecology to ensure patients' comfort and movement throughout the clinic by incorporating VSM, a process learned through N.C. State University's Industrial Extension Service that involves following and documenting a patients' transition through the check-in area, waiting room, exam room, laboratory, X-ray room and check out area, then designing the facility's layout around those movements. Committed to ensuring a more positive patient visit, with the expectation of improving patient outcomes, Atrium Obstetrics and Gynecology's staff believes the more pleasant the encounter, the more positive patients will feel about their health situation and more likely to fully participate in their care.
Another of Bikas Building of North Carolina's priorities for Atrium Obstetrics and Gynecology was to construct a large, comfortable and efficient procedure room that facilitates more in-office procedures, including hysteroscopy, Essure sterilzation and endometrial ablation.
"Patient confidentiality in our office is extremely important," said Dr. Matthew Alvarez of Atrium Obstetrics and Gynecology. "Pete Bikas understood this and offered multiple suggestions on how to best accommodate the sound attenuation. We are very satisfied with the near-soundproofing that Bikas Building of North Carolina was able to achieve. Patients, staff nor visitors are able to overhear conversations in exam rooms or other patient areas while in our office."
