Big Island Woodturners Club presents its Annual Exhibit from March 8 to 28, 2014 at the Wailoa Center in Hilo.
- (1888PressRelease) March 18, 2014 - Hawaii welcomes woodturning enthusiasts and art aficionados to a celebration of the Aloha State's arts and culture as the Big Island Woodturners Club presents its Annual Exhibit from March 8 to 28, 2014 at the Wailoa Center in Hilo, the county seat of Hawaii.
Now on its 16th year, the exhibit features over 200 of the best turnings from members all around the island, including members of the West Hawaii WoodturnersClub. The event is also among the most anticipated events in Hilo, home to prime neighborhoods near Hawaii's top tourist attractions, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.
The Big Island WoodturnersAnnual Exhibit is open on Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30pm, and entrance is free to the public. This year, as an added attraction, there will be Woodturning Demonstrations twice a day on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
Attendees can take home a piece of the Big Island's wood turnings via a silent auction. Those who cannot visit the exhibit can still take part of the auction online, simply by visiting www.bigislandwoodturners.org to place a bid. The funds raised will be used for educational programs and to help offset operating expenses of the annual wood show.
Sponsored by Woodcraft Hawaii, HPM and Awapuhi Farms & Mill, the event also commemorates the non-profit organization's 16 years of dedication to educating its members and the public about the art of turning.
In 1997, the Big Island Woodturners Club became the first chapter of the American Association of Woodturners in the state of Hawaii. Founded by Jack Straka, Elmer Adams, Doug Leite, Barry Ching, and Kelly Dunn, the club membership has grown in number over the years.
The ever-popular annual event is expected to draw crowds as it showcases not only the skills and artistry of Hawaii's wood turners, but also the rich culture and luxurious vistas of the Big Island.
Exhibit-goers and participants can fully enjoy the Big Island experience by looking at the natural beauty and the exclusive estates and residences in the area's prime neighborhoods.
