Bhutan Ambassador inaugurated Annual International Fest 'One World"at LPU

  • (1888PressRelease) May 16, 2015 - Providing a common platform to international students from 30 countries to represent heritage of their respective country, LPU organizes its annual international fest "One World". This year the 6th fest is being celebrated on the theme of "Women Empowerment" for two days. Bhutan Ambassador to India, Major General Vetsop Namgyel, inaugurated the international cultural extravaganza at the campus. Prior to this, the fest was flagged off for one kilo-meter long colourful procession which comprised 30+ international tableaus. Showcasing and upholding cultural inheritance of their respective country, international students kept on dancing & singing all the way. Celebrating the theme of the year students were holding placards with slogans "Give her power to change the world", "Every woman matters" and many more. Nepalese students celebrated their New Year also.

    International students were seen with attires, ornaments and other attributes of their respective country. Continuing 5 years of celebrations at 4 venues of the campus through 20 exhibition stalls, 2000 international students mesmerized 30000+ campus audiences. Maintaining global unity, Indian students, too, participated along with their International counterparts in different celebrations.

    Awarded with the highest military decoration and national 'Druk' Medals of his country, it is highlighting to share that Ambassador Namgyel was commissioned from the Indian Military Academy. As a senior member of the Royal Secretariat, he has worked closely with all the Secretaries and Ministers of the Royal Government of Bhutan, in particular with the ministries of Home and Foreign Affairs. He has presented his credentials as Ambassador of Bhutan to India in the year 2009. Addressing the students Ambassador asked international students to serve as brand ambassadors of their respective countries at LPU Campus and to represent their alma-mater while being back in their countries. He specially asked Bhutanese students to uphold the glory of their country by working closely with all other students irrespective of their origin or being.

    Welcoming the elite guest from Bhutan and congratulating all the fest participants, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said: "Being global university, we at LPU motivate our international students to celebrate this mega-fest by showcasing and sharing their cultures and values with students of other countries. This celebration of diversity indeed helps students in strengthening bonds of unity in diversity and also in imbibing global understanding."

    Students also showcased myths, folk-lore, tribal-tales, urban development, music, dance-forms, literature, chivalry, currencies, attires, languages and other achievements. Thousands of on-looking students witnessed and enjoyed the spirit of 'One World'. Participating 30 countries included students from China, Colombia, Russia, USA, South Africa, Bhutan, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Cameroon, Maldives, Zambia, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Thailand, Kazakhstan and more.

    One of the students from China Fu Jiaqi (B Design- M Design Program) shared: "We are very happy to represent our country. We saw that other students enjoyed dragon dance of our culture with a feeling of oneness." Mauritius student Arvind of Ayurveda Program, Sindimwo Kristian of BBA from Russia and Katrina Varslavane from Latvia of B Sc Airlines program hold: "This celebration has definitely made us more practical with an elaborated insight into how world can be one leaving aside all self interests." Another student from Mongolia, Pagma said: "We understand that the unity among human beings lies in their diversity. We are happy to see that LPU designs this fest so that students with distinctive cultural backgrounds work together and closely to be globally fit citizens."
