Benedikt Misovic Has Won The World Marbles Championship 2013
The best marbles players competed in the World Marbles Championship 2013.
- (1888PressRelease) August 02, 2013 - The 7th World Marbles Championship took place in Prague, Czech Republic, in July 27th. 36 participants competed not only against other players but also against the weather -- temperatures soaring up to 35 degrees Celsius made this sport event even more challenging.
The tournament started at 11 a. m. by splitting the participants into four groups of nine players. Each group played in the standard round robin format and then the players were seeded into advantaged double elimination brackets. The elimination part of the championship was finished 11 hours later.
Advantaged double elimination system, as opposed to traditional KO system, has two main pros. Firstly, when a player looses his first match, he is not eliminated and still can win the tournament. Secondly, group winners are seeded closer to the finals than the seconds, the seconds are still seeded closer to the finals than the thirds, etc. This way, unlike from many other sports, marbles players never face a situation when they win a lot of matches in the group and then finish in the last position after the elimination part of the tournament.
And who were the most successful players? After the 6th place in his group, Benedikt Misovic started his great journey through the tournament which was crowned by the title of the world champion. In the finals, he defeated Josef Kamaryt who became a runner-up. The bronze medal earned Miroslav Tlusty who won the World Marbles Championship 6 years ago.
