Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP Partner Karen Hart has been selected for inclusion on Texas Lawyer's 2014 "Winning Women" list, a select group of 20 total attorneys from across the Lone Star state.
- Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) September 13, 2014 - Bell Nunnally & Martin LLP Partner Karen L. Hart has been selected for inclusion on Texas Lawyer's 2014 "Winning Women" list. Selectees are featured in a special supplement accompanying the September 1 print edition of the publication and will be honored at a luncheon on October 8 at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
The "Winning Women" list features 20 attorneys from across Texas. Candidates were nominated by readers who were asked to suggest individuals who have: achieved recent, significant victories; an established track record of prevailing in high-stakes matters; been successful in defending against actions seeking substantial damages; handled first-of-their-kind cases; made a substantial change to the practice of law; or claimed victory in cases that had a national or statewide impact. More than 150 submissions were then researched by the publication's editorial staff to produce the final list. 2014 marks the return of the feature, which last ran in 2011.
"Karen's drive, intellect and legal prowess are, as colleagues and clients can attest, on display on a daily basis. Her selection to this list a testament to her dedication to her craft," said James Skochdopole, managing partner of Bell Nunnally.
Hart is a member of the firm's Litigation and Real Estate practice areas. She is an experienced litigator and counsels clients with respect to contractual business disputes, complex commercial real estate and landlord-tenant matters, lien and bond issues, foreclosure suits, lien priority disputes and business tort claims. Hart also advises clients on international litigation and arbitration matters.
Achievements outlined in Hart's nomination included helping, with five court victories over five years, a receiver appointed in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission case quiet title to and sell a Dallas property for the benefit of a group of defrauded elderly investors, and litigating a hotly contested garnishment action that resulted in the development of new Texas garnishment law on appeal.
Active in the business community, Hart chairs the North Texas District Export Council, to which she was appointed a member by the U.S. Department of Commerce. She also chairs the Marketing and Communications Committee for Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) in Dallas. In addition, she is past president and a member of the board of directors for Texas Winds Musical Outreach - a non-profit organization serving the Dallas/Fort Worth community, sending professional musicians to play live music concerts at nursing homes, hospitals, veteran's hospitals, hospice care programs and educational facilities for at-risk children.
Hart is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (J.D., 2001) and the University of Texas, El Paso (B.A., 1997). Respected by her peers, Hart has been selected for inclusion on the "Texas Rising Stars" list six times, including in 2014. In 2012, she was honored with a "Women in Business" award by the Dallas Business Journal.
