Beka Apostolidis, Cardiac Program Manger from VNA HealthCare Named to HBJ's 40 Under 40 List
Beka Apostolidis, RN, MSN, a Cardiac Program Manager for VNA HealthCare in Hartford, a Hartford HealthCare Partner, was named to Hartford Business Journal's 40 Under 40.
- Hartford, CT (1888PressRelease) July 26, 2011 - The Hartford Business Journal presents the "40 Under 40" award to individuals under 40 in Central Connecticut who stood out as young leaders who excel in their industries, are respected business leaders and show dynamic leadership in their community. Following a nomination process, HBJ editors selected 40 professionals who will be honored at an awards ceremony on September 26th at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
Beka, who joined VNA HealthCare in 2003, was selected to receive this honor for her commitment to delivering exceptional care and achieving the highest standards of clinical excellence in cardiac care.
At VNA HealthCare, Beka plays a vital role empowering patients to live healthy and independent lives at home through personalized, one-on-one education and through the utilization of technology including home health telemonitoring - a program she has grown more than 700% over the last seven years. Through her diligent efforts and innovative ideas, Apostolidis has been able to significantly reduce the hospital readmission rate of congestive heart failure patients to well below the state average.
In concert with the University of Connecticut School of Nursing, Beka created a protocol to prevent rehospitalizations and improve depression and quality of life for heart failure patients. Her co-authored article on the successful results was recently published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. A grant proposal was submitted to the National Institute of Health to extend the study and is currently among the finalists being considered. Another of Beka's studies will soon be published in Heart and Lung Journal.

In addition to her full-time role as Cardiac Program Manager, Apostolidis also serves as a clinical instructor to University of Connecticut nursing students during their clinical student rotation at Hartford Hospital, and she truly relishes her role in educating the next generation of nurses. She additionally serves on the State Review Board of Pharmacology and on summer weekends serves as a nurse at a summer camp for disabled children.
