  • San Jose, CA (1888PressRelease) March 04, 2009 - James E. Moore IV, AIA, LEED AP, has joined BCA Architects design team as Vice President and Studio Principal. He will be responsible for strategic plan execution and the performance and operation of BCA’s four offices.

Moore has more than twenty years of leadership and design experience in educational facilities, civic, aquatic centers, performing arts venues and healthcare projects. For the past ten years, as President and managing partner of Phillips Metsch Sweeney Moore Architects in Santa Barbara, he oversaw firm growth from one office to five, and a doubling of staff to 45 employees.

Moore's expertise is in design, code compliance reviews, cost estimating, value engineering, and construction administration. His client list includes the University of California, Santa Barbara, California State University, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara City College, School Districts, the County of Santa Barbara and the Cities of Ventura, Paso Robles and Lompoc.

“Jim is a wonderful addition for BCA, and his experience in overseeing internal operations, his energy in integrating design, project delivery and quality control, and a personal commitment to sustainability will help us greatly in implementing our vision plan,” said BCA founding principal Paul Bunton.
Moore’s executive level management experience provides him with the insight and ability to mentor BCA’s talented staff and position BCA Architects for continued growth. In 2006, he received an Outstanding Design Industry “CEO of the Year” award from PSMJ Resources, Inc.

As a LEED Accredited Professional, he reinforces BCA’s commitment to sustainable design, High Performance Schools and other facilities that are energy efficient, healthy and comfortable. Moore’s designs emphasize the benefits of long-term operational cost effectiveness seen in the Psychology Addition at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which reduced the need for a cooling system by incorporating natural ventilation to take advantage of the proximity of the site to ocean breezes. For a high school pool in Arroyo Grande, located in San Luis Obispo County, he included a micro-turbine to provide enough power to heat the pool and the rest of the campus, and for the Lompoc Aquatic Center he included 2 fuel cells to heat the 3 pools and power the facility.

Aside from in-house firm leadership, Moore has been a leader of the Santa Barbara architectural community. He is a past president of the AIA Santa Barbara Chapter, the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara and The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise. As part of his work with the Architectural Foundation, he taught classes on the Built Environment to public school children. Moore has also been a director of the AIA California Council.

“We’re excited that we can bring his expertise directly to our clients,” added Bunton, “but also that Jim’s great community leadership will continue through his participation in professional and community organizations when we open our San Jose office.”

BCA Architects (http://www.bcainconline.com) has recently expanded, with four offices across California. Established in 1989, the firm is known for their educational, civic, and religious design. BCA helps clients solve problems that go beyond the traditional scope of design work, such as obtaining funding through grants and partnerships, evaluating site and phasing programs, and an array of other services to get projects built.
