  • (1888PressRelease) December 25, 2010 - It is the first bank in Spain to use this type of car, highlighting its commitment to environmental protection and eco-efficiency. BBVA will use the car to transfer employees between its various buildings in Madrid during the working day. Today’s delivery of the new iOn model to BBVA makes Peugeot the first European car manufacturer to sell a totally electric car. The launch is backed by Endesa as provider of the charging infrastructure.

The delivery ceremony for the electric car was held in Madrid today and attended by Gerard Bergé, Head of Resources at BBVA Spain and Portugal, Antonio González, Co-general manager of Peugeot Spain, and Javier Uriarte, Endesa’s Marketing Director.

The Peugeot iOn is the first new-generation electric vehicle to be launched in Europe. Silent, agile and manageable, the car’s electric engine (maximum power of 49 kW or 66 cv) guarantees efficiency. This compact urban model measuring 3.48 meters offers its four occupants an easy, smooth driving experience with high levels of comfort and safety. Practical and vivacious, it offers an excellent internal space/external dimensions ratio and unrivalled maneuverability. Thanks to the efficiency of its lithium-ion battery, the Peugeot iOn has a driving range of 150 kilometers in standard European cycle.

Developed for professional and private use, the new Peugeot iOn will be on sale today for a price of €29,550 excluding taxes, equivalent to a final price of under €30,000 if the government maintains subsidies for this type of vehicle. Peugeot also offers a lease/buy back option that includes numerous maintenance and assistance services for a monthly price of less than €500 (including taxes and government subsidies). iOn: 100% electric, 100% real. This vehicle is Peugeot’s response to the new challenges of urban mobility.

The deal was carried out by Peugeot and Endesa on the basis of the agreement signed last July for the start up of e-mobility activities. Specifically, one of the four lines on which the two companies are collaborating involves deciding which electric vehicles can be supplied by Peugeot to Endesa’s key accounts, like BBVA.

    Transporting employees

BBVA stands out as the Spanish bank to acquire the first 100% electric vehicle marketed in Spain by Peugeot with the support of Endesa, a further reflection of its commitment to protecting the environment and to eco-efficiency. The deal includes a four-year leasing agreement carried out through BBVA Autorenting.

Initially, BBVA will use this electric vehicle to transport employees between two of its buildings in Madrid: the one at calle Monforte de Lemos, where the Spain and Portugal business unit is located, and the group’s operating headquarters at Paseo de la Castellana 81. Endesa will install a charging station for the electric vehicle at one of these buildings.

The car will run between the two locations non-stop throughout the working day. In addition to making it easier for the bank's employees to get to other offices, the initiative will save costs and help to reduce CO2 emissions in Madrid.

The project is part of the CSR policy rolled out by BBVA Spain and Portugal and the Global Eco-Efficiency Plan launched by the bank in 2008 to minimize its direct environmental impact. Lines of action included in this plan are the implementation of green vehicle policies, measures to improve energy efficiency and to offset CO2 emissions.
