Bayside Launches Scotch Whiskey Program with June 18th Dinner
Executive Chef Paul Gstrein Crafts 5-Course Dinner With Pairings.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) June 12, 2015 - More and more Americans are drinking Scotch whiskey with an increase of about 8% each year to the tune of $1.4 billion in annual sales. In all, Americans now drink more than twice the Scotch it did only eight years ago. In keeping with this growing trend, Bayside Restaurant in Newport Beach has introduced a Scotch Whiskey program that features more than 50 selections as well as whiskeys produced in Japan, Canada, France and Ireland.
To kick off the new program, Executive Chef Paul Gstrein has crafted a 5-course dinner with pairings selected by Darren Williams, west coast brand director for Distell USA. The exclusive dinner will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. and space is limited. Call 949-721-1222 for more information.
Guests will be greeted with a glass of Deanston Virgin Oak as a welcome cocktail after which the dinner begins with bruschetta topped with whiskey cheddar, tomato jam and smoked prosciutto served with Deanston 12 year. Next, a Lock Etive steelhead trout with a maple soy glaze and potatoes is accompanied by a Bunnahabhain 12 year followed by a honey-thyme roasted Muscovy duck breast with heirloom carrots served in an orange reduction with fennel dust served with Bunnahabhain 18 year. Then venison tagliata with forest mushroom cannelloni in a truffle essence Madaira sauce is paired with Ledaig 10 year. Capping off the dinner is a chocolate ganache tart with salted caramel and torched mellows served with a Bunnahabhain Toiteach. (Menu subject to change.)
While whiskey is produced in many countries around the world, only Scotch is produced in Scotland. What we know today as Scotch whiskey was introduced by Christian monks 500 years ago and they were the ones who guarded the secrets of fermentation & distillation that give us the quality products now available to consumers.
"We have researched countless sources to develop our Scotch whiskey list," said Bayside owner Marc Ghoukassian. "We want to offer our guests a glimpse into this fast-growing, ever-evolving and exciting world, and launching our program with our first-ever Scotch dinner is the perfect introduction."
Bayside is a contemporary dining establishment with an extensive menu emphasizing fresh seafood. The 246-seat restaurant, that overlooks the tranquil waters of Newport Harbor, recently completed a massive interior renovation that includes new color scheme, seating and fabric upholstery, modern lighting, acoustical improvements and a generous use of Macassar ebony, a rare wood from Indonesia. The remodeled interior lends the ideal backdrop to Bayside's ever-evolving fine art exhibition. The wrap-around patio comes with built-in heaters and sun drapes and its large windows offer breathtaking views of the harbor. Live entertainment is offered nightly in the bar and lounge and during Champagne Sunday brunch. For more information call (949) 721-1222 or visit www.baysiderestaurant.com.
