Bay Area Air Quality Management District collaborates with We The Creative for their interactive 2017 Annual Report
We The Creative is pleased to present their first work on behalf of Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD): a print edition and unique interactive web experience of the organization’s 2017 Annual Report.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) August 07, 2018 - BAAQMD serves the rapidly shifting 9-county Bay Area that includes cities such as San Francisco, Napa, and San Jose. Their mission is to adopt and enforce air pollution regulations across an economically and culturally diverse landscape that’s home to over 7 million people. As the agency finds itself up against new obstacles and challenges at the federal level, it was important that the report convey optimism about the future and redoubled commitment to their science-based mission. The report’s audience includes local city and county officials, industry leaders, and the general public.
Tasked with overall strategy, design and development, We The Creative found their inspiration from space-tech design aesthetics, which was a nod to the area’s deep roots in technology. The report was designed as a “mission brief,” to give it a sense of urgency and captivate the audience. With bold graphic elements throughout, tinted stylized photography, and asymmetric layouts, the report is a progressive, engaging and professional experience that stands out from other annual reports.
We The Creative developed both the print and web version distinctly to make the most of the medium. The interior layout incorporates We The Creative’s “run/walk/jog” approach, for the ways different people consume information. The report’s asymmetric layout helps readers speed through the content, and the different infographics help make dense information more digestible. Touch and feel were not overlooked, such as the report’s cover, which has a unique surface creating an intriguing tactile experience.
The interactive web report has a responsive design, suited for desktop, tablet and mobile viewing. The landing page allowed the user to scroll through the different sections of the report, from an aerial view, as if you were moving across a map.
For Bay Area Air Quality Management District Communications Director Lisa Fasano, it was important that We The Creative’s work showcase innovation, commitment, and tenacity. “We appreciated the creative approach We the Creative took us through to capture our story and create a visually dynamic and engaging annual report,” Ms. Fasano said. “Their collaborative design process enabled us the flexibility we needed to allow us to move productively toward the final design."
