  • (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2011 - Bastion Pictures has begun its pre-production campaign for the Kevin Godley conspiracy thriller, Where The Treetops Glisten (WTTG), the first project from the company's new virtual production division, Bastion Virtual, which aims to form a collaborative production community across the world, tapping into actors, writers, filmmakers, enthusiasts and financing, all through the internet.

The pre-production campaign on WTTG includes an open casting call to the USA, Canada, the UK and Ireland, for the eight leading roles, with shortlisted talent auditioning virtually online; an opportunity for filmmakers to have their own clips of specific scenes included in the Director's Cut; investment opportunities with equity positions for large-scale investors, and smaller-scale opportunities with incentives and rewards for enthusiasts.

The next project from Bastion Virtual, which starts in development in March 2011, will expand on the WTTG campaign to include active participation by the community in developing the storyline and writing the screenplay - submissions will be called for storyline ideas, a selection of which will be put to the vote; and along the way, the same process will be used to select story points to steer the plot. Bastion Virtual will also first look to select a writer from within the community to write the screenplay.

Bastion's Managing Director, Andrew Thompson, said, "There is a massive wealth of creativity, passion and money out there that wants to be part of the filmmaking process but simply doesn't know how to get involved. We're aiming to bring those people, along with established industry, right into each process of development and production."

Bastion Virtual's mission is fourfold: to make feature film creation more accessible to the general public and creatives; to increase the reach for creative and other resources available on each project; to turn the film development process into a viable business model in itself; and to discover hidden talents along the way.
