  • (1888PressRelease) November 15, 2010 - BASF today announced the availability of Kollicoat® Smartseal 30 D at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientist (AAPS) Annual Meeting, November 14-18, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans Louisiana. The show hosts more than 10,000 attendees from the pharmaceutical industry with a focus on research and development. Visitors to BASF booth 2045 will have the opportunity to hear a presentation on this new product at 4:00 PM.

Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D is the first water-based dispersion for taste masking and moisture barrier applications. It was developed to simplify and accelerate aqueous film coating operations, and opens new doors for formulating tablet, pellet, and particle coatings. “Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D combines a strong protective effect with efficient processing“, said Ralf Fink, Vice President Global Marketing Pharma Ingredients at BASF. “We are confident the new polymer will help customers tackle challenges in formulating bitter or moisture-sensitive active ingredients.”

Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D is highly impermeable to water vapor, helping preserve the potency of sensitive active ingredients. The polymer is stablein saliva and specifically soluble in gastric juice. This insures effective protection from unpleasant taste in the patient’s mouth and rapid release and onset of active ingredient action in the stomach.

    Broad portfolio of coating excipients.

Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D complements BASF’s existing tablet coatings portfolio. Under the Kollicoat brand, BASF markets a broad range of coating polymers and copolymers that are used to coat tablets, capsules and pellets and to control the release of drugs from solid dosage forms. The Kollicoat family includes: Kollicoat IR and Kollicoat Protect instant release coatings, Kollicoat IR Color Coating Systems, Kollicoat MAE enteric coatings, Kollicoat SR 30 D sustained release coatings, and the new Kollicoat Smartseal 30 D protective coatings. These high quality products help customers streamline production processes, boost efficiency and reduce manufacturing costs.

With its polymer chemistry expertise and clear commitment to developing new pharmaceutical excipients, BASF creates solutions that contribute to its customers’ success. The BASF global team strives to continuously develop and extends its portfolio of innovative excipients and active ingredients.
