Bangor Cork Expands Cork Products through Custom Manufacturing Capabilities
The CNC router provides repeatability and greater precision to expand cork offerings to include geometric shapes and custom cut-outs.
- (1888PressRelease) October 13, 2018 - Bangor Cork, a U.S. supplier, distributor, and manufacturer of cork products, announced today the expansion of its custom cork product line by adding CNC router capabilities. Known for their color cork, cork rolls, and sheets, Bangor Cork added the CNC router to repeatability and precisely provide more customization to their custom cork products.
With the CNC router, Bangor Cork can supply cork titles in geometric shapes by cutting panels up to 48 inches by 9 inches”. Currently, a wide variety of diamond, triangular, round and hexagonal shapes in various colors are available for purchase. All cork tiles are crafted with high-quality Forbo® colored cork and come prepared for permanent or removable mounting depending on your needs.
“We initially decided to add large format CNC capabilities to cut cork products into different shapes, but quickly found the machine was capable of much more,” said Pete Raines, owner of Bangor Cork.
Beyond shape cutting, the CNC Router is also used to provide skillful techniques for functional custom cork projects using a vector file. Using the computer-controlled cutting machine, Bangor Cork has expanded its capabilities to include custom cut business logos, school emblems, and more.
Various techniques have been developed using the CNC router including watermarked panels. “Using a flat tipped bit, we remove only the outermost pigment layer of the colored cork,” explains Pete Raines, President of Bangor Cork. “Because the cork grain exposed is always tan, this creates a difference in appearance which is noticeable in the darker colors. Lettering and logos are clear yet understated, and the tackability of the panel remains effective for a functional statement.”
Other techniques include laminating different cork types and colors of cork to achieve depth and texture of logos or designs. Currently, these techniques are available only by quote as they require personalization.
