  • Baltimore, MD (1888PressRelease) May 22, 2013 - BCO opens its fifth season with Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (Elixir of Love), a comic tale of the dangers of placing your trust in magic potions to win love. BCO favorites William Davenport and Sharin Apostolou return to dazzle audiences as young peasant Nemorino and the object of his affection, the fickle Adina. Hilarity ensues as Adina is pursued by another suitor, and Nemorino seeks the help of the untrustworthy Dr. Dulcamara to get his way through whatever means necessary. L'elisir d'amore will premiere on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 7:30pm followed by Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 3pm.

Norma follows on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 7:30pm and Sunday, November 24, 2013 at 3pm in conjunction with BCO's Annual Silent Auction. Fresh from her widely praised performances as Lady Macbeth at BCO, soprano Francesca Mondanaro returns to BCO for the quintessential diva role. Bellini's tale of the Druid high priestess betrayed by love is sure to sparkle in the theater of the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion.

After last season's Carmen, BCO returns to the music of Georges Bizet with Les pêcheurs de perles (The pearl fishers), a tale of "bromance gone wrong." Zurga, king of the pearl fishers, and his childhood friend Nadir took an oath to always put their friendship before their mutual love for the beautiful Léïla (and reaffirm that oath in a duet you are sure to recognize!) Their friendship is threatened when Léïla suddenly reappears after more than a year. Bizet's talents are on full display in this romantic masterpiece. Les pêcheurs de perles will be performed on Friday, February 28, 2013 at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 2, 2013 at 3pm.

BCO closes its fifth season with Giuseppe Verdi's tragic masterpiece Il Trovatore (The Troubador.) Happy endings may be few and far between in this family drama of Count Di Luna's search for his long-lost brother, but Verdi was at the height of his powers when he filled Il Trovatore with some of the greatest music the art form has to offer. Performances are Friday April 11, 2013 at 7:30pm and Sunday, April 13,2013 at 3:00 pm.

Season ticket sales are now open to the public and single tickets go on sale July 1, 2013. BCO offers Season tickets with a choice of a four opera subscription at a 15% discount, a three opera subscription at a 10% discount, or individual tickets ranging from $25-$65.
