Back On Solid Ground at the Calgary Fringe Festival
David Andrew Wiebe and his band are scheduled to perform at this year's Calgary Fringe Festival.
- (1888PressRelease) July 16, 2011 - David Andrew Wiebe has been a part of the Calgary music scene for over 9 years. He has hosted numerous successful promotional events at various Good Earth Café locations as well as a variety of fundraisers. This summer, however, he's up to something a little different.
Wiebe and his band will be performing at the Calgary Fringe Festival under the show name "Back on Solid Ground." According to Wiebe, Back on Solid Ground is the working title for his cohesive follow-up to his first album, Shipwrecked... My Sentiments (2006).
However, for the band it also represents a solidifying focus and musical unity. Wiebe notes that focusing on one thing was often difficult for him because he is continually dreaming up new ideas for musical projects. However, the band feels unified in presenting this music to their audience, and Wiebe could not be more excited about that.
Thematically, the music touches on subjects of heartache and disappointment. Apparently Wiebe took a liking to a particular girl in 2008, but things did not work out how he had hoped. However, he was able to channel his emotions to create a body of new work, which he will be presenting at this year's festival.
Wiebe, who, for the most part has been performing solo, will be joined by a group of excellent musicians who all boast some knowledge or background in Classical music. Anna Mae Alexander will be joining him on vocals, Joshua Park on violin, and Patrick Zelinski will be on the keyboards as well as guitar.
Back on Solid Ground will be hosted every night at Nine Café (1319 9 Ave. SE) from 7:45 PM. Tickets are available at the Calgary Fringe Festival website (http://www.calgaryfringe.ca/).
