Babson College Received Habitat For Humanity Of El Salvador's 2012 Annual Solidarity Award
On December 5th Babson College was named the recipient of Habitat for Humanity of El Salvador's 2012 Solidarity Award in the "international group" category.
- (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2012 - On December 5th Babson College was named the recipient of Habitat for Humanity of El Salvador's 2012 Solidarity Award in the "international group" category. Lisa Hellmuth, Director of Faith and Service, and Brian Duggan, Assistant Class Dean of Babson First year Program, accepted the award on behalf of Babson. The award was presented at Habitat El Salvador's annual fundraising dinner, Café Benefica, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel this past Wednesday.
For the past four years, the organization has recognized the supporters and friends of Habitat El Salvador who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the organization and its vision of improving poverty housing and the lives of the people in its communities.
Over the last five years, Babson College has sent nine volunteer teams comprised of students and staff for a week in March to help build houses for the community. Additionally, for the past two years Babson College has hosted an entrepreneurship workshop series in the Getsemaní Community. In the award letter, Habitat El Salvador said, "Babson College has been one of our most loyal supporters"
Babson's Bernon Center for Public Service coordinates volunteer and community service activities with various local and national community service agencies. Last year, Babson community members provided over 27,000 hours of service.
The Bernon Center strives to graduate socially responsible and civically engaged individuals who understand their role in giving back to the community as well as their competencies to seek innovation in solving global social justice issues.
