  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) July 21, 2011 - Graham Czach (pronounced "zak") is at the end of his rope. Actually, 10 ropes. In the new, eye-inspiring Rope Man video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWrk9Qc_wfU), the Chicago multi-instrumentalist plays 13 instruments at the same time, all by pulling ropes attached to his 10 fingers and using his feet to play bass and snare drums while singing. The singer-songwriter performs his original composition, "End of My Rope."

The handcrafted rope "contraption" as Rope Man calls it, features long ropes tied to short pieces of vertical PVC pipe posts. The spring-loaded posts -- each equipped with a metal arm and eraser tip -- then pivot inside a complex and twisted PVC pipe base, swinging and banging pre-tuned guitars, basses, chimes and a cymbal.

As if that's not enough, a chef's cleaver is attached to the end of one metal arm, and in the final seconds of the song, the cleaver slices a piece of rope made taught by 20 hanging beer, wine and Jameson whiskey bottles, triggering a crash of broken glass on a concrete floor.

"We built the rope contraption to challenge how much one single musician can perform at a given time," says Czach. "Since the inception and completion of this invention, we have discovered modifications for the contraption to allow even more instruments to be performed simultaneously with much more ease."

Rope Man is the creation of Graham Czach and David Glines, bassist and guitarist for Chicago Afrobeat Project respectively. The duo intends to write additional songs using the rope contraption and book live performances in Chicago. The video is sponsored by Bankruptcy HQ, a Chicago-based company that provides personal bankruptcy information and connects people to a local bankruptcy attorney.
