Award Winning Nancy Cartoonist Guy Gilchrist Is Drawn To St. Jude's Children Hospital On April 28th

  • (1888PressRelease) April 25, 2015 - Award winning internationally syndicated cartoonist and author of the iconic Nancy comic strip, Guy Gilchrist will be bringing joy to patients at St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis, TN on April 28, 2015 along with cartoonists Tom Richmond of Mad Magazine; Stephan Pastis of Pearls Before Swine; and Greg Cravens of Buckets from the National Cartoonists Society. Gilchrist and the other cartoonists will be drawing with the children at the hospital the entire day going from room to room bringing a blend of creativity and humor to the children. Gilchrist has appeared in the past at St. Jude's and believes that bringing smiles to the faces of the children at the hospital is one of the most important things he does. The cartoonists will also be providing the young patients with 250 gift bags that will have assorted comics inside.

    "St. Jude's stands for hope for so many children," said Guy Gilchrist. "The faces of the children light up with smiles as we draw. Bringing even one smile to one of these children means more to me than can be imagined. Nancy and I are glad to be helping St. Jude's."

    Gilchrist and the other cartoonists will be appearing at St. Jude's all day on April 28th. They will bring to life some of the iconic cartoon characters that they have drawn over the years. John Lotshaw who assists Gilchrist with Nancy will be with Gilchrist for the event.

    Guy Gilchrist at the age of 24, he was hand-selected to create Jim Henson's Muppets Comic Strip which was printed worldwide in 660-plus newspapers daily from 1981 to 1986. Throughout the years, he has set his hand to such notable cartoons as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Fraggle Rock and The Pink Panther and was instrumental in the creation of The Muppet Babies. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee.

    Syndicated internationally in 80 countries and some 400 newspapers, Nancy has a viewership of 57 million readers around the world. And as fans of the the comic strip know, Nancy resides in the fictional town of Three Rocks with her Aunt Fritzi and friend, Sluggo. Gilchrist took over the Nancy comic strip in 1995. In 2013 he unveiled a one-of-a-kind exhibit, Nancy Loves Nashville, at the Nashville International Airport that revealed the location of Three Rocks as a suburb just outside of Nashville.
