Award Winning Indie Author Wants to Donate First Million to Charity
Kirkus Best Indie featured author Graham Parke uses yearly event to raise money for CHI.
- (1888PressRelease) December 24, 2013 - Author Graham Parke announced the start of an international literary event today. With the help of book bloggers and related social media he aims to raise money for charity this December.
"Each year I hold an event during which I give out books and prizes," stated Mr. Parke. "This year I thought it'd be fun to donate the proceeds as well. So, all December, the proceeds of my novels go to Child Helpline International. The CHI supports toll-free child helplines and highlights gaps in child protection systems."
Since his fiction debut in 2010, Mr. Parke's quirky, off-beat novels have garnered an impressive list of awards and nominations, and have earned him a spot on the Kirkus Best Indie list of 2011. Dubbed extremely witty and clever by the California Chronicle, a movie based on his debut, "No Hope for Gomez!' is currently in development.
Responses from book bloggers to the event have been inspiring, causing them to queue up to spread the word via a specially designed guest post.
"I've often wondered how many of the world's problems we could solve permanently if everybody set one month of income aside to fix this place up," Mr. Parke continued. "I have no idea how to get that ball rolling, I'm not even sure where we keep the balls, but I can certainly start with myself."
Participants in the event receive Parke's latest novel, "Completely Flappable" for free. It serves as a prequel to the award winning "No Hope for Gomez!"
"I understand it's not easy for people to give up an entire month of income," Mr. Parke stated. "It hurts. But a little hurt in the present could save a lot of hurt in the future, so I really hope this catches on. A Million seems like a longshot, but there's always last minute Christmas shopping."
Praise for Graham Parke's novels:
"Extremely witty and clever writing that contains keen insights into human nature." California Chronicle
"Challenges our perceptions about how we think of, and interact with, the world around us." Kirkus Discoveries
"The antics in this book will leave the reader laughing. Graham Parke is a genius." Readers Favorite
