Award Winning Filmmakers Represent Atlanta in the Cannes Film Festival in May
Fugo Studios, an awarding winning film studio in Atlanta, Ga, will have two of it's films shown at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival in May.
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) April 27, 2011 - Local filmmakers Eric Haviv, Brandon Morris and Richard Webb will proudly represent Atlanta and FUGO Studios when two of their award-winning short films are shown at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival in May.
"It's just great to have our films and hard work recognized," says Director Eric Haviv. "The amount of attention we've received has been amazing. And to have a film that we made in Dunwoody, Ga. shown in Cannes, France is more than we could have hoped for."
Both films-entitled "Pray" and "The Phantom Draw"- have already won multiple awards including Best Atlanta Film, Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best editing, Best Sound, Best Effects and Audience Award.
Originally created for The 48 Hour Film Project, "Pray" deals with jewel heist, a subject Haviv has always wanted to tackle. "Eric's family is in the diamond business, so this story is always one he wanted to tell. So when the 48 Hour Film Project came up, we thought why not go for it," stated FUGO co-owner Brandon Morris.
The second film being shown at Cannes is "The Phantom Draw." The film, created for the Green Project, addresses the important subject of going green, but with a twist. "We wanted to do something different with this film. We wanted to show that going green was important, but it was important for us to send a message about being personally responsible for you and your immediate surroundings," adds Haviv.
"It seems everyone is so worried about what others are doing to help instead of just focusing on themselves, and what they can do to make things better. And that's the root of the problem," continues Haviv. "If everyone would make sure their own bubble was good then, as a direct result, the entire world would be a better place."
But even with two films receiving international exposure, Haviv and Morris still maintain high hopes for Atlanta's local film scene. "The film scene in Atlanta is growing, but I think it would be great if the large studios moving here would recognize the abundance of great local talent in Atlanta," says Morris.
And its in this capacity that Haviv and Morris both believe their studio will excel, and by continuing to create great films like the two premiering at Cannes, the world will surely have an increased respect for Atlanta's burgeoning film scene.
