Avelgood Releases iOS app with Digitized Paintings of Birds of America by John James Audubon
Digital high definition scans of the watercolor paintings of American birds done by James Audubon are now available in the iOS app called BirdArt. The plates depict vivid illustrations of birds in their natural habitats and portraying various poses.
- (1888PressRelease) January 22, 2016 - Printed between 1827 and 1837, The Birds of America is one of the greatest works of natural history art and it is the most valuable book ever published. A original copy of the book was auctioned in 2010 for US$10.3 million.
BirdArt - Birds of America Edition now allows the millions of iPhone and iPad user to enjoy Audubon's great masterpiece on their deivces. It contains high-resolution scans of the plates from the book that can be zoomed in or out and can also be viewed in both portrait and landscape modes.
Once the images are downloaded in the app no internet connection is required, which allows for fast viewing of the pictures. Other features of BirdArt include the ability to search for a painting by the bird's name and also sharing.
Among the birds presented in the app are six birds that are now extinct which are carolina parakeet, ssquimaux curlew, great auk, labrador duck, passenger pigeon, and pinnated grouse.
