Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation Supports Summer Camp and Holiday Program
Parker Autism Foundation's Camp Dakota Helps Children on the Spectrum Learn Social, Life, and Community Skills.
- (1888PressRelease) May 11, 2012 - Schererville, IN - The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation (www.myASDF.org), a national organization that provides direct support for families living with autism, partners with the Parker Autism Foundation (PAF) to support its annual summer camp and holiday gift card program.
The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation donated $10,000 to help provide seventeen scholarships to Camp Dakota, PAF's summer day camp for children affected by autism. The four-week camp in Charlotte, North Carolina gives children on the autism spectrum the opportunity to learn and develop social skills, life skills, and self-help skills. Campers participate in daily crafts, social groups, and field trips to local attractions and events where they are able to work on social and community skills.
As one of PAF's key partners, the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation helps send autistic children to the popular camp that otherwise would have been unable to attend due to financial constraints. In addition to funding scholarships for Camp Dakota, the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation also donated four iPADs to assist nonverbal campers with communication.
The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation was also happy to support PAF's 2011 holiday program by donating $5,000. The foundation hosted an event at Charlotte's Healthy Home Market where 10 families received $500 gift cards, toys, and household supplies.
"Parker Autism Foundation is extremely blessed to have the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation as partners," said Shelley Reilly, executive director of Parker Autism Foundation. "With the assistance of ASDF, we're excited to continue to provide support, learning opportunities, and enriching experiences for children with autism and their families."
The Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation looks forward to providing scholarships for this year's camp and funding PAF's holiday gift card program. In 2013 the Autism Spectrum Disorder Foundation will purchase a new 15-passenger van for Camp Dakota's field trips.
