Authors Slashing Book Prices As Kindles Fly Off The Shelves For Christmas

Top Quote One Maine author is offering up his thrillers for $2.99. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) December 22, 2010 - Maine author Mark LaFlamme has knocked the price of his Kindle books down to $2.99? Why? The author wants to explore the post-Christmas Kindle market.

"The way I see it, a zillion people will be getting the Kindle under the tree this Christmas," LaFlamme said. "And I want to make my books affordable for those who are trying out their new gadgets."

By knocking the price of his newest release"Box of Lies" down to $2.99 - that's more than 80 percent off - LaFlamme is also bucking a trend. Most traditionally published authors are selling new releases for $9.99, many at the insistence of their publishers.

"I think $2.99 is a good 'take a chance' price," LaFlamme said. "And that's what I want. If someone takes a chance on one of my books, I know they'll want to get the rest, too."

The Kindle has been the number one item sold on amazon.com this Christmas season, according to recent figures. Thousands are sold every day.
