“Songy unites the religious and the supernatural for a compelling story of change and redemption.” – USBookViews.com
Dawn McIntyre is the strong, stubborn, no-BS host of the popular New Orleans radio show In Your Face with Dawn McIntyre. She revels in the glory of moderate fame and has an outlet for her never-ending rage at the world; if it means having to deal with self-righteous Bible thumpers the likes of fellow local celebrity Marcus Dillon, so be it. But when she finally challenges God himself, Dawn gets much more than she bargained for. Now she knows firsthand the truth behind the spiritual realm and the eternal battle of Good vs. Evil—but will this knowledge be enough to help her save her sister, Amy, from the world of human trafficking? Or will she have to pair up with her least favorite person in the world to fight off Amy’s demons? Most importantly, how will this journey affect Dawn’s outlook on the world and its creator?
In Open Windows, William Songy laces Christian fiction with elements of the supernatural to create a new perspective on the intertwining nature of the physical, the spiritual, and the religious. The plot of redeeming a soul is not new to Christian fiction. However, the addition of some more supernatural elements and pop culture gives this plot new life. Songy weaves a modern take on this ages-old tales while also highlighting the tragedy of human trafficking. The equally-important themes of family, love, healing old wounds, and tolerance also make minor appearances to construct a fairly well-rounded narrative.
Dawn is a classic fiery heroine with a mind as strong as her will. She is no saint by any means, and she has clearly had more than her fill of the world’s dark side, but she is good at heart. The story of Dawn’s corruption by modern society and journey to redemption resonates with today’s world of backwards politicians and faux-devotees. Her ability to do what she thinks is right, no matter what is popular at that moment, is brave and inspiring, the most engaging aspect of Dawn’s character development.
Given the genre, non-Christians might want to think twice before picking up this book. For some, it will be an intriguing look at the spiritual themes in supernatural elements. For others, it could be read as insulting to non-Christians; such interpretation is especially possible when looking at Dawn’s stubbornness and temper. However, her evolution is key to the overall message of the book, and so any non-Christian readers will have to take the good with the bad and proceed with a thick skin.
Anyone who loves Christian fiction, particularly about the fight of Good vs. Evil and redemption, will love Open Windows by William Songy. Modern and daring, this book takes readers on an adventure into the spiritual realm to face one woman’s inner demons. While not a tool for conversion, this story will latch onto its reader’s minds and not release its hold for days to come.

About the Author:
William Songy’s first story was a picture book titled Crunch the Crab written at the academic age of six. Inexplicably the graphic novel fell woefully short of reaching #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Nevertheless, after three decades of reflection on what should have been, he completed and published the first of three self-help books.
In 2003, after an incident with his son, he was inspired to study the supernatural and explore the spiritual realm. It was during this journey that his interest in writing expanded, which led to the completion of his first spiritual warfare novel titled Open Windows. He has since completed a second novel Beyond this Realm.
William and his wife have three children and two grandchildren. When not traveling, they live and eat well while living in Southeast Louisiana.
