Four-time Pushcart nominee Ricky Garni will host Living Poetry's first Poet Local of 2011 on Sunday, January 30th. Garni will discuss his publishing history, writing career, and will answer questions about his writing process.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) January 13, 2011 - The Poet Local series explores poets' lives and writing styles. Garni is an award-winning poet who has been published in over 150 journals and has composed over 26 volumes of prose and poetry. He is presently working on a collection based upon sitcoms from 1950 to 1990, entitled TELEFRICASSEE. A graduate of Duke University, Garni has worked over the years as a teacher, wine merchant, graphic designer and organizer of poetry events ranging from James Thurber Slams to Frank O'Hara After Midnight to Love Letters Released. He's a staple at most of the Triangle's monthly open mics and readings, from Carrboro's Looking Glass and Open Eye Cafes, to Raleigh's Royal Bean. "If you have heard about poetry in the greater Raleigh area, you've heard of Ricky. He keeps poetry alive through many events and readings throughout the year," said Angelika Teuber, Living Poetry's Organizer.
The afternoon dovetails with Living Poetry's 2 Year Anniversary Party, which begins immediately following Garni's discussion. As all of Living Poetry's events are free and open to the public, those attending are encouraged (but not required) to bring a dish in honor of the group's anniversary. A big cake, snacks and drinks will be provided for the celebration.
RSVP instructions are available at www livingpoetry net. The event takes place at 3PM on Sunday, January 30th at the Media Room of Ashley Park Apartment Homes of Brier Creek, 10300 Pine Lakes Court in Raleigh. The next Poet Local event will be hosted by Alice Osborn.
