Author Michael Jackson Smith Publishes a New Book Presenting a Personal Perspective of Panic Disorder, Alcoholism and Recovery
The Road To Fort Worth is the saga of Smith's 35 year journey to freedom as told by his alter-ego, Jack Wendell, a man compelled by fear to find a way to stop the panic attacks that crippled him. He discovered that alcohol could wash away the terror that he felt, but eventually he had two problems.
- (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2010 - In his search for answers, Jack encountered a host of treatment centers, institutions and therapists; a horde of dysfunctional people; and the jumble of ineffective therapy, prescription drugs, misinformation and bias against mental illness. When he was desolate, homeless, hopeless and broke, he stumbled into Fort Worth, and his life turned a corner after he uttered six words in a dingy barroom. Smith's inspiration for writing was his own life. With both a deep sense of gratitude for his recovery and his disdain for the abundance of misinformation online, he was committed to set the record straight on the processes of disease and recovery. The book is required reading for those still suffering from the dual disorder, and their loved ones seeking to understand them . The book is clear, honest, often subtly humorous and long overdue in a world greatly impacted by both diseases. And in the final analysis it shows that no one is ever beyond hope.
Publishing authority Kelly Wallace concluded that: "In the end this is a book about hope, about never giving up on yourself no matter how bleak the present and future may seem. It's a book that instills the comfort and reality that miracles do happen."
