David Ivor Davies, aka Ivor Novello, the protagonist of the play in this volume, was one of the first among the angels of the British theatre. He wrote the defining song of the First World War, 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' and after the Second World War, one of the most nostalgic, 'We'll Gather Lilacs.' He wrote hundreds of memorable melodies as well as being a highly gifted director, film and stage actor, author, lyricist, producer and successful business man. He alone saved the Drury Lane Theatre from closure with his series of highly popular shows. He was also loved for his generosity, kindness and self effacing modesty - a true icon of the theatre and an enduring angel.
This play concentrates on Ivor, the person, and his home background In Cardiff, where he was born, and in London, a remarkable person from a remarkable Welsh family. Thousands of his fans and friends from all over the country attended his huge funeral.
In 'Lost and Found' the hero Alex Parry discovers lots of odd angels along the way in his native Cambridge, including the love of his life. At the end, he invites them all in for a drink at his local where his toasts are all answered and his fears finally laid to rest.
Daisy Smith in 'Alice' leaves this life without benefit of angels but faces her end with a grim sense of humour - perhaps the best of all blessings.
