Attorney Phil Karter to Present CLE to Montgomery Bar Association

- (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2016 - Tax controversy and tax litigation attorney Phil Karter, a shareholder with national law firm Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry, will present a CLE seminar to the Montgomery Bar Association on April 26.
Entitled, "Help, My Client Is Being Audited, What Do I Do?" the session will help lawyers who may not focus their practices on tax law understand the audit process and its bearing on federal tax controversies.
"Tax audits can be a time of particular angst for small to mid-sized clients, particularly those for whom such audits are not routine," said Karter, who has spent more than 30 years focusing his legal practice on tax controversy and litigation. "Attorneys can help improve their client's odds of a positive outcome by preparing for a potential IRS challenge before one is even on the horizon, and this session will help them do just that."
An experienced tax attorney, Karter has litigated federal tax cases in the United States District Courts, the United States Tax Court and the United States Court of Federal Claims and has argued in the United States Court of Appeals in multiple circuits. His range of trial experience, which includes dozens of jury and non-jury cases tried to judgment, encompasses a wide variety of complex and high-profile matters involving federal income, estate and gift, and excise tax issues.
That experience has been acknowledged by several leading ranking publications, including Chambers USA, which routinely lists Karter among its leading nationwide tax controversy lawyers and the Legal 500 U.S., also for tax controversy.
A shareholder in the Philadelphia office of Chamberlain Hrdlicka, Karter earned a bachelor's degree from Emory University, a law degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Law, and an LL.M. degree in taxation from New York University School of Law.
