Atos extends contract with the IPC

(1888PressRelease) July 27, 2011 - Atos, an international IT services company, today announced an extension to its current partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to include the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Under the agreement between Atos and the IPC, Atos will further contribute to the development of the Paralympic Movement by designing, building and running its new website, www.paralympic.org, which aims to become the worldwide information source for the Paralympic Movement. Atos will also continue to collaborate with the IPC and engage in joint activities to support the International Paralympic Foundation.

Atos confirmed that, with just over one year to go to the start of the London 2012 Games, the technology it is delivering on behalf of London 2012 and together with the other technology partners is on-track and on-schedule.

New contract with the IPC
Atos has been a key technology provider for the Paralympic Movement since 2002 and became the official Worldwide Information Technology Partner for the IPC in 2008. The contract extension announced today with the IPC extends the longstanding relationship between the two organisations.

Atos will design, build and run the new website - www.paralympic.org - which is due to go live in autumn 2011. The new website will use the latest technologies to engage visitors and provide them with the latest information on Paralympic sports.
One year to the London 2012 Games
Since 2005 when London was announced host city for the 2012 Games, Atos has been working with the London 2012 technology team and the other technology partners to design, build and test the immense IT infrastructure that will make the Games happen. With just over one year to go, the majority of the technology has been delivered. Key accomplishments include:
Volunteer Portal – enabled people to apply for up to 70,000 volunteer roles during Games time
Technology Lab – launched and fully operational – it is here that the Games are being put to the Test with an incredible 200,000 hours of testing
Equipment Deployment Centre – opened and fully operational – from here thousands of computers, servers, network and security devices are configured and distributed to the venues
myInfo+ - available for the very first time at London 2012, the new internet application is now in test phase. It enables accredited media, sports officials and athletes to access information on competition schedules, medal ranking tables, transport news and sports records via their laptops.
Commentator Information System – remotely available for all Olympic sports for the first time at London 2012 as well as a first to have it for 5 Paralympic sports, it is now in test phase. It displays results on touch-screen PCs in less than 0.3 seconds at venue broadcast sites, providing broadcasters with the results before they hear the roar of the crowd.
In the next 12 months, the Atos technology team will concludes the testing phase and moves into the 24/7 operational phase. Key milestones to come include:
Autumn 2011 – launch of the Technology Operations Centre - the mission control for The Olympic and Paralympic Games
Winter 2011 – launch of accreditation system which will process 200,000 accreditations that serve as a visa for athletes, workforce, volunteers, media, sponsors, officials and other members of the Olympic and Paralympic Family to enter the UK as well as accessing the London 2012 venues
Spring 2012 – Final Technical Rehearsal – simulates the three busiest days of competition during which hundreds of operational scenarios will be executed, such as a flood and network disconnection, to ensure operational readiness for the Games
July 27th 2012 – Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games
August 29th 2012 - Opening Ceremony for the Paralympic Games
