Atlanta Lawyer Marc Howard Named to State Bar Committees
Atlanta trial lawyer Marc Howard to serve on the Bar's Evidence Study and Judicial Procedures and Administration Committees.
- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 03, 2010 - The president of the State Bar of Georgia has appointed Atlanta trial lawyer Marc Howard to serve on the Bar's Evidence Study and Judicial Procedures and Administration Committees . Howard already represents the Atlanta Circuit, Post 36, on the State Bar Board of Governors.
The State Bar of Georgia has approximately 43,000 attorneys, and all persons authorized to practice law in Georgia are required to be members. The State Bar exists to foster among the members of the Bar of this state the principles of duty and service to the public; to improve the administration of justice; and to advance the science of law.
The Evidence Study Committee provides expertise to the Bar and the State Legislature regarding proposed legislation reforming Georgia evidence law based on the Federal Rules of Evidence to promote the goals of fairness, predictability and, where appropriate, uniformity. Evidence rules are a critical part of trial work in Georgia, and the Legislature relies on the expertise of experienced trial lawyers in drafting legislation for use in jury trials.
The Judicial Procedure and Administration Committee reviews the practical working of the courts of Georgia and recommends changes to the law or uniform rules. It also receives and reviews all proposed legislation affecting the courts of Georgia.
The Bar is governed by the Board of Governors, which controls and administers the organization. Of the approximately 43,000 lawyers in Georgia, only 150 serve on the Board of Governors. Howard is a member of the Board of Governors .
Howard-a founding partner at Pope & Howard, P.C., an Atlanta law firm specializing in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases-will assume his duties on the Board of Governors at the State Bar's annual meeting in June at Amelia Island, Florida.
"I greatly appreciate the president-elect's confidence in me, and I will work hard to serve the lawyers of this state to the best of my ability." Howard said.
Howard, who has successfully tried and settled hundreds of personal injury and wrongful death cases, also serves as Chair of the Civil Justice Political Action Committee, the political arm of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association (GTLA) and as a member of GTLA's Executive Committee. Howard's law partner, Geoff Pope, is president-elect of GTLA.
Howard and the attorneys at Pope & Howard, P.C. are committed to serving and protecting Georgians' rights, and will continue providing high-end legal representation to individuals who suffer severe personal or financial injury due to the wrongful conduct of others.
