Atlanta-area Manufacturer of Medical Compression Stockings, SIGVARIS, Teams Up with Local Boy Scouts to Help "Scout for Food"

(1888PressRelease) February 14, 2012 - PEACHTREE CITY, GA - Last year, the local Boy Scouts raised more than 20,000 food items for local organizations committed to helping people. This year, employees at SIGVARIS helped set the Boy Scouts up for an even bigger total in 2012 by helping them raise more than 7,000 items for the Real Life Center.

The Real Life Center is a local organization committed to helping families get back on their feet financially, emotionally or spiritually during tough times. The Boy Scouts created the "Scouting for Food" program to help collect food for organizations like these that are committed to helping people in the nearby community.

During the past couple of weeks, a friendly competition grew around SIGVARIS as each department struggled to bring in more items than the other departments at the company. Employees generously gave items such as can goods, baby food, pasta, personal hygiene items, snacks and more.

"Employees at our company enjoy giving back to others. The inner-company competition that sprung from this food drive is the kind of thing that makes SIGVARIS a fun and unique place to work," says Elaine May, director of customer care. "As each team turned in their final donations, it was amazing to watch how all these individual efforts grew into such a remarkable donation for the Boy Scouts to donate to the Real Life Center."

Cathy Berggren, executive director of the Real Life Center says, "As a local food pantry recipient of the Boy Scout food drive we are so grateful for the support from SIGVARIS! This is one of largest food drives that we count on to help provide for families in our area. SIGVARIS has made such an impact! Last year, we had an increase of just over 50 percent of families we provided for. It is our hope that SIGVARIS' participation will encourage additional businesses to get involved and realize the difference they can make as well. Together, we really can make a difference in our community and the lives of others."
