Atheist Billboard in Sioux Falls Raise Awareness of Human Trafficking
Sioux Falls Feminists announce their human trafficking billboard campaign with six digital billboards that will appear for the next six weeks, facing north at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue, in the center of Sioux Falls.
- (1888PressRelease) January 18, 2018 - Sioux Falls, SD - The purpose of this billboard campaign is to make the Sioux Falls community aware of the Human Trafficking Awareness Month of January, and to encourage them to report ANY SUSPICION of human trafficking to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 1-888-373-7888. The billboards, funded through a local nontheistic (atheist, agnostic, humanist and freethinker) and secular-friendly group-the Sioux Falls Feminists-draw attention to a website (www.SiouxFallsFeminists.com) that contains a comprehensive list of local, statewide and national agencies that can offer assistance to victims of Human Trafficking.
Dale Hemming, president of Sioux Falls Feminists, wants to raise awareness of the issues regarding human trafficking and encourages other residents of Sioux Falls to take action against these abuses. "The National Human Trafficking Hotline is a national anti-trafficking hotline serving victims and survivors of human trafficking and the anti-trafficking community in the United States. The toll-free hotline is available to answer calls from anywhere in the country, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year in more than 200 languages." Hemming also added, "The Sioux Falls Feminists fully supports the Human Trafficking Hotline's mission of providing human trafficking victims and survivors with access to critical support and services to get help and stay safe, and to equip the anti-trafficking community with the tools to effectively combat all forms of human trafficking. The hotline offers victims round-the-clock access to a safe space to report tips, seek services, and ask for help. They also provide information, statistics, and resources on a wide range of topics related to human trafficking."
Hemming concluded, "I don't know any reason why people would have a problem with our message unless there is a reticence to bring such moral and ethics issues into the public square. Atheists, agnostics, humanists and other freethinkers in Sioux Falls value human life and work for the dignity of all people-especially those who are vulnerable and susceptible to the abuses of human trafficking. We feel that it's time for us to bring these issues into the open and do something about them in conjunction with others who hold similar values in our local community."
