ASTM Updates US Toy Safety Standard F963
ASTM International has updated its US Toy Standard and issued ASTM F963-16. Published on October 20, 2016, it contains several significant changes to the previous standard - ASTM F963-11.
- (1888PressRelease) December 06, 2016 - The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has published a new version of its Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toy Safety - ASTM F963-16. The revisions, published on October 20, 2016, update the existing ASTM F963-11 and include several significant alterations to the US toy standard. Manufacturers should now familiarize themselves with the revised standard to ensure continued compliance.
ASTM F963-16 includes changes relating to:
• Magnets
• Projectiles
• Toy Chests
• Batteries
• Microbiological Safety
• Heavy Elements, such as heavy metals in textiles and stickers
• Acoustics
• Cords and Elastics
• Stuffing Materials
• Labeling
• Plus a number of miscellaneous changes to individual items, such as ride-on-toys.
ASTM F963-11 was incorporated as a mandatory rule, by the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), on June 12, 2012. The 2016 version of the toy standard will be become mandatory within 180 days of publication, under the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), unless it is rejected by the CPSC within 90 days.
