Asian Artillery: Superintendent from the Republic of Korea Armed Forces to Discuss Range and Lethality

  • (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2011 - London, UK - Brigadier General Lim Sang Soo, Superintendent, School of Artillery, Republic of Korea Armed Forces, will be speaking on how to enhance current artillery systems by developing future doctrine and strengthening capabilities at the Future Artillery Asia conference, September 6th-7th, at the Swissôtel Merchant Court Hotel in Singapore.

    To meet urgent regional threats of countries such as South Korea, India, and Singapore, Brig Gen Lim will be providing operational feedback into current systems such as the Samsung K9Thunder- a South Korean self-propelled 155 mm howitzer from Samsung Techwin. According to the company website, the K9 Thunder has an increased rate to enable rapid and concentrated artillery power, providing superior mobility and survivability.

    The implementation of this type of system plays an important part in the South Korean modernisation process and provides valuable operational feedback for other Asian and Asian-Pacific nations.

    Brig Gen Lim is a former director of the fire and munition program department and has in-depth experience of acquisition programmes, force planning and G-3 operations. At Future Artillery Asia he will join a speaker faculty of international experts such as Colonel Pedro P. Biasbas, Commander, Army Artillery Regiment, Philippine Armed Forces, who is leading a session on the Capability Upgrade Programme (CUP).
