- (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2011 - Ho Chi Minh City - Supports educational needs of over 400 children and plants 8,000 trees to conserve the environment
The Ascott Limited's (Ascott) serviced residences in Ho Chi Minh City - Somerset Chancellor Court and Somerset Ho Chi Minh City (http://www.somerset.com/vietnam/ho_chi_minh_city/somerset_ho_chi_minh_city.html) - have continued to reach out to a group of over 400 underprivileged children of Tan Hung A Primary School. The school is located in Long Phu, Soc Trang province, about 250km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. In a recent visit to the school, Ascott's staff donated over 700 new books to its library and presented the children with school bags and stationeries.
Mr Manabu Komatsu, Ascott's Director of Sales & Marketing for Ho Chi Minh City, said: "We believe that education is the best gift we can offer the children. This is the fourth year we have partnered with Tan Hung A Primary School to support the children's educational needs. In 2008, we donated a water purifier to the school so that the children can have safe drinking water."
Mr. Bui Duyên Hồng, President of The Study Encouragement of Long Phu, Soc Trang province, said: "Ascott's contribution has made a big difference to the lives of the children from low-income families. The support from Ascott has provided the children greater access to education and a better study environment."
Besides reaching out to underprivileged children, Ascott has also sponsored and taken part in an initiative to grow two hectares of mangrove forest at the Thanh Tri, Nga Nam District. In recent years, the destruction of the mangrove forest has been associated with storms that caused on average VND1.5 trillion to VND5 trillion in damages each year.
"This initiative not only enables Ascott to do our part for the environment by combating global warming and protecting the biodiversity of the forest; it also spreads the green message among our staff who will be involved in planting the trees," said Mr Komatsu.
