Arts, Culture and Lifestyle Workshops in the heart of Italy
"Over the years, we came to realize that the real reason people came to our painting or photography workshops was to renew their spirit, to rediscover who they wanted to be," notes Michael Mele, co-director of Il Chiostro since 1995. "Sure, touring Tuscany and taking a class was part of it, but people were leaving different from when they came."
- (1888PressRelease) July 05, 2011 - At the Tuscan Renaissance Center you will bring your program to life in an enchanted environment. The Chianti hills. A twelfth-century monastery. Sumptuous food. The harmony of the vineyards. There is a reason why Tuscany is an enduring destination.
The Concept: We have created a place to take you away from your daily life and allow you to focus on an activity you love in the company of like-minded people. Infuse that with traditional Tuscan values that reach back to the essentials of living: beauty, taste, community, nature and you have fertile ground for creativity, for new ideas, for discovery. Set all of this in a stunning landscape and the result is pure inspiration.
The Place: The facility of San Fedele was a monastery dating back to the twelfth-century. It is reborn, thanks to the labor of love that its present owners, Nicolò and Renata, initiated in 2001. "Bringing life back to San Fedele and awakening its dormant soul allowed us to re-discover ourselves." Today there are 17 guest rooms with all modern conveniences. The original church, the refectory, the stone cantinas and the terrace of the monks are still intact, but transformed into gathering spaces and classrooms. San Fedele's historic significance has been maintained and every visitor becomes a part of it.
The People: Linda and Michael have been facilitating arts and culture workshops in Italy since 1995. "Tuscany enriches us. We started doing this because we wanted to share our passion for Italy with others." When Nicolò and Renata came together with Michael and Linda the restored monastery became the Tuscan Renaissance Center. When we open the gates of this historic residence to you, we also open our hearts. Together the four of us will facilitate every detail and necessity to support you every step of the way to ensure an ideal and enriching experience.
This is the Tuscan Renaissance Center with a great story to tell…your own.
At the Tuscan Renaissance Center (TRC) we organize, facilitate and host workshops or seminars in art, culture, spirituality, and personal or professional development.
This is a place where you can come to focus on an activity you love in the company of like-minded people.
Our name is derived from the fusion of three ingredients:
Tuscan - rolling hills, historic hilltowns, masterpieces by Botticelli and Michelangelo, harmonious vineyards outside your window - there is a reason why Tuscany is such an enduring destination. But in addition to the stunning setting, we emphasize the traditional Tuscan values of respect for nature, a passion for food and wine, appreciation of aesthetics and the value of friendship and community.
Renaissance - this was a period when rediscovering the classics brought about a reawakening of art, literature, philosophy and life in general. The monastery of San Fedele, built in the 12th century, witnessed this historic transformation. But it also went through its own rebirth when, after being abandoned in 1982, its current owners brought it back to life by meticulously restoring it. And we hope that this will be fertile ground for our guests to plant the seeds of their own personal renaissance.
Center - today this is a place, a facility, that is well-equipped to host a variety of programs from painting and photography to music and meditation. In addition to the 17 guest rooms, the original church, refectory, piazza and terrace overlooking the olive groves can be adapted as large gathering spaces, while the stone cantinas where the monks stored their food and wine are now studios and classrooms.
