- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2012 - Executive Director and Co-Founder Betsy McCall, as well as Founding Member Nathan Rosquist, Music Director of Artmonk Retreats Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist, Board Members Leah Hofkin, Pierre Theodore, and Karen Gifford, and the local Artmonks, will gather to celebrate the Art Monastery's summer successes.
The brainchild of San Francisco artists McCall and Christopher Fülling, the Art Monastery Project has been an American non-profit arts organization since 2008. The vision of the project is to cultivate personal awakening and cultural transformation through art, community, and contemplation. The pilot site, Art Monastery Italia, takes the form of a year-round intentional community of (mostly American) artists living in the rural hills near Rome, Italy, producing art in a wide range of media by applying monastic principles to artmaking rather than religion. Which monastic principles? Contemplative practice, a shared rigorous schedule, ecological sustainability, and more.
"Arte & Musica" will take place on October 11, 2012, at 7pm at the Diego Rivera Gallery, San Francisco Art Institute, 800 Chestnut Street, San Francisco, CA. The evening will feature unique Italian delectables created especially by Chef Emma Sanchez (Foreign Cinema, A16, Art Monastery Italia Summer 2012 chef), exquisite vegan delights by Hella Vegan, and Fuzzy Philippe's Edible Love raw chocolate truffles.
A silent art auction features works by nearly 40 artists from SF, LA, and NYC, such as Justin Hoover (SFAI alum, Curator and Gallery Director at SOMarts), Ian Macdonald (prof at SFAI), Jack Leamy (SFAI alum, Tournesol Award Recipient 2010, Headlands Resident), and more! Live music will be provided by Artmonks Phoebe Jevtovic Rosquist (soprano, SF Symphony Chorus, Cancioner, La Monica), eO (trumpet, body percussion), and Derek Wright (oud, saz). The evening will also include a raffle with prizes such as a weekend stay at Art Monastery Italia or a custom dinner for six prepared by Emma Sanchez in the winner's home.
There will be an opportunity to donate at the door but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds will benefit the Art Monastery Project, 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity. All donations are 100% tax deductible. For more information, please contact Executive Director Betsy McCall at betsy ( @ ) artmonastery dot org dot
