Area Girl, School Receive 1-800-HANSONS Sing-a-Jing Contest Grand Prizes
$5,000 college savings bond, $500 Toys R Us gift card to 5th Grader; her school wins $2,500.
- Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease) January 14, 2012 - A local fifth grader and her school were recently presented with prizes after the student won the 1-800-HANSONS annual Sing-a-Jing Contest.
Sarah Nelson of Country Oaks Elementary in Commerce Township received a $5,000 college savings bond and a $500 Toys R Us gift card, and her school came away with $2,500, all because Sarah's video of her singing the 1-800-HANSONS "Get It Done" jingle garnered the most votes in an online contest from last fall.
On January 11, 2012, Brian Elias, president of 1-800-HANSONS, presented the prizes to Sarah and the school's principal, Deborah Devers. The "Sing-a-Jing" contest is held every year by 1-800-HANSONS, the home improvement company that has been serving Michigan and Ohio since 1988.
Over 100 videos were submitted online of kids singing the 1-800-HANSONS jingle between September 26 and November 26, 2011. All voting was done online.
Two additional children, Destiny Beard, grade 2 from Southfield ($2,000 savings bond and $300 gift card); and Isabella Kucharczyk, grade 4 from Novi ($1,000 savings bond and a $200 gift card), came in second and third place, respectively.
Elias said that he was "blown away" by the creativity and effort put into many of the videos.
