- (1888PressRelease) June 21, 2011 - Wilderness and Wildlife travel experts Aqua-Firma are pleased to confirm that their March 2012 Wildlife & Marine Life Voyage across the Southern Polar Circle will now include free photographic workshops. The workshops will be delivered by an expert from the Leica Akademie, who will run progressive sessions throughout the voyage for both beginner and advanced photographers alike.
Whilst workshops and photography discussions will take place onboard during evenings, passengers will have daytime opportunities to put their skills into practice at sea and during onshore landings in one of the most photogenic environments in the world. With its mile long icebergs and deep fjords, Antarctica is home to some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. From its wealth of wildlife to its diverse marine life, Antarctica provides 3000m high mountain peaks and breathtaking coastal glaciers. The icy waters of the Antarctic Peninsula and its offshore islands provide rich feeding grounds for orcas, humpbacks, blue and sperm whales as well as such other marine life as macaroni, chinstrap and gentoo penguin colonies. A combination of zodiac cruising and onshore trekking allows for deep exploration of this stunning location and close up photographs to be taken of its diverse wildlife.
The Leica expert will be on hand to assist passengers with their photography and will advise how to get the very best from their camera, however basic or specialised a model it may be. With a maximum group size of just 20 per onshore landing and with the guidance of the onboard Leica expert, participants will be able to put their newly acquired skills into practice as well as developing existing ones. There will also be opportunities for passengers to test Leica equipment for themselves free of charge - a brand renowned for producing some of the highest quality images.
Aside from photography, this action packed voyage will also provide opportunities for the more adventurous to experience sea kayaking on the White Continent, and spend a night camping on the ice. For those who scuba dive, Aqua-Firma's onboard diving and marine experts will open up a whole new world of rich marine life. For those who don't dive (especially in such extreme conditions!) you can also 'see' what lies beneath the ice through photographs and video footage the dive team will bring to the surface each day. Amongst a team of polar expert guides due to be onboard will be Aqua-Firma Marine Scientist Charlotte Caffrey, and former British Antarctic Survey diving supervisor, Kelvin Murray. Each evening onboard, Charlotte, Kelvin and the rest of the guiding team will provide talks about Antarctica's wildlife, marine life, polar history and climate change.
This voyage will provide an ideal opportunity for keen photographers, wildlife enthusiasts and accomplished divers alike to see and keep a visual record of a once in a lifetime expedition to the Southern Ocean.
